Over the past 18 months, the Big West refinery located in West Bakersfield has had over 30 toxic releases, including one they failed to report just a few days ago. Senator Dean Florez will look into these various toxic releases and examine the refinery’s safety record at a California State Senate hearing. With more than 200,000 people living in the immediate vicinity of the refinery, even small accidents and chemical releases at the site put large numbers of people in danger. It is important for the community to attend this meeting to let Big West know these toxic releases are simply unacceptable.

The California State Senate hearing will take place on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at Bakersfield City Hall.
